I own a series of wood cutting boards which I use for food prep and serving. A warm colored wood board looks so nice in the kitchen, and their versatility make for a luxurious experience in the kitchen. Caring for the wood is easy:
Brush solids off with a towel, rinse liquids off with water. Give boards a scrub every once in a while.
Always leave cutting boards out in the open to dry. The key is that they are able to dry quickly.
Oil them once every few months. This restores the color and durability. Think of it as “feeding” the board.
Natural properties in wood make the boards resistant to bacteria. The only thing I don’t do on my wood boards is prepare raw meat.
Wood cutting boards also make great serving trays. I serve tea to guests so often on these boards. If ever I drip bits of water onto the board I don’t have to worry about sopping it up since they’ll evaporate cleanly.
