I found a set of three folding tables at the Alameda County Flea Market.
They’re a rich reddish brown, sturdy, and incredibly versatile. Their slim build means they can tucked away or deployed anywhere.
The grandson of the man who created these tables found my photos on Flickr and was kind enough to share their history:
My grandfather, Floyd O. Bohnett, born in Campell, California, was a very successful farmer and contractor from a large pioneering family. He built a lot of dams and bridges around Northern California. Floyd retired to Santa Barbara in 1937 but started a furnuture business in the late 1940′s so his four sons would have a job when they all came back from WWII.
It got pretty big with making those patented tables, other fine furniture and really great wooden bowls and plates sold in fine stores like Saks. In the early 1960′s my uncle moved the company to Irvine and eventually sold it off.
I am always on the prowl for stuff he made. It is all really well made. I am sure you will enjoy it for years.
Joe Bohnett
These three tables were made in the 1950′s. The underside of each table is branded with the Bohnett signature.

I found two of these tables discarded by “Out of the Closet” thrift shop on Pico Blvd. in West Los Angeles. I knew I’d find a story behind them. They have a new home in my 1953 Spartan Trailer, built by J.Paul Getty.
